Unfortunately,
prevalent trends of modern architecture and interior styles almost leave
no space for forged iron items. The trade lost appeal and master smiths
don‘t find apprentices to pass their trade secrets onto. The blacksmithery
gallery-museum in Uzupis hopes to preserve this trade, so that forged iron
articles would continue to decorate our homes and cities as they have had
during many centuries.
In this gallery- museum you can learn about blacksmith trade, tools and
history, visit exhibitions, view museum collection, watch professional
blacksmiths forging iron, learn about essential equipment and tools or buy
forged iron articles.
The Uzupis gallery-museum of blacksmithery has been founded by UAB „Vilniaus
kalviai“ in 2004. This gallery- museum is related with a program of fine
crafts, ethnographic trades and fairs, which is coordinated and supervised
by Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency.
