Population
36,000 inhabitants, of whom 58% reside in
towns and 42% - in rural areas. Of the total, 46,4% are men, and 53.6% -
women. Ethnic descent: 47.4% are Lithuanian, 28.8% - Polish, 16.2% -
Russian, 5.5% Belorussian, and 2.1% - of other descents.
