39,000 inhabitants, of whom 39% reside in towns and 61% - in rural areas. Of the total, 48.3% are men, and 51.7% - women. Ethnic descent: 98% are Lithuanian, 0.9% - Russian, 0.4% - Polish, and 0.7% - of other descents.
