57,310 inhabitants, of whom 51,2 % reside in towns and 48,8 % - in rural
areas. Of the total, 47,6 % are men and 52,4 % are women. Ethnic descent: 98 %
are Lithuanian, 1,5 % - Russian, 0,5 % - of other descents.
