The Lithuanian National Revival Oak-Grove
In 1988 several Vilnius’ citizens initiated the idea to express Lithuanian National Revival by planting oaks. The first planting of the oak-grove was organized by the Initiative group.
The Oakery was formed not only by the efforts of locals but also Lithuanians from Latvia, Kaliningrad, Belarus and other places. During several weekends 12 oak-groves were created. Presently, the Lithuanian National Revival Oakery covers an area of 39.4 ha. 8400 oaks have been planted in 14 oak-groves. The oakery is embellished with sculptures of students of Vilnius Academy of Art.
