Collection
The collection is composed of household articles used by the Lithuanians
mostly in the Suvalkija region in the18th, 19th, 20th centuries, including
bedding, textiles, smith’s tools, kitchen and farming articles, as well as
more than 6 000 calendars of various size and purpose, of almost 200 names,
collected from 50 countries of the world.
Exposition
Household exposition
It is laid out in four buildings, which belong to the same ensemble enclosed
by a wooden fence. The exposition contains the following buildings:
a) The girls’ barn, a building of 19th century.
b) The smithy, a building of 20th century, with such exhibits as a wooden
plough, 200 years old, various smith’s tools and drills, a 70-year treadle
table for wood turning etc.;
c) The granary, built in 1921. The exterior of the granary is hung with old
crosses and
fences from deteriorated graves. Indoors there is an exposition on kanklės-players of Skriaudžiai (kanklės, a kind of zither, is a
Lithuanian string musical instrument), as well as various handicrafts:
textiles, national sashes, and small wooden articles.
Another exposition is dedicated for political prisoners, partisans, and
exiles.
There are photos of all Lithuania’s presidents with biographies.
d) The chimney-less dwelling (dūminė)
It is a dwelling of the 18th century where are exposed household articles,
spinning- and weaving-looms.

Exhibitions
The Museum arranges exhibitions of ethnography, photography.
In spring the Museum is going to open an exhibition of dowry chests and
coffers.
