Simonas Daukantas
S. Daukantas (October 28, 1793 in Kalviai - December 6, 1864 in Papile).
The first historian to write on the history of Lithuania in the Lithuanian language, an ideologist of the Lithuanian national movement. His major works include Darbai senuju lietuviu ir zemaiciu (The Works of the Old Lithuanians and Samogitians), Istorija zemaitiska (The History of Samogitia), Budas senoves lietuviu, kalnenu ir zemaiciu (The mode of Living of Old Lithuanians, Uplanders and Samogitians), and Pasakojimas apie veikalus lietuviu tautos senoveje (A Story of the Works of Ancient Lithuanians). Simonas Daukantas wrote on the past of Lithuania, covering the period from the most ancient times up to the Union of Lublin. He described the nature of ancient Lithuania, the occupations of inhabitants, the religion, the political system, customs, and the character traits of common people. In addition, he studied Lithuanian annals as well as other documents of archives, compiled Lithuanian-Latin and Polish-Lithuanian dictionaries, and prepared manuals and guidebooks for peasants.

Lenkimai
Historical sources mention the Lenkimai palace and village in the 16th century. 
In 1680 the first Roman Catholic chapel was built here. Today this church has been declared to be an architectural monument.
In the center of the town there is a monument built in 1993 to commemorate the first Lithuanian historian, Simonas Daukantas.
