Exposition
The exposition was opened in 1978.
It consists of three parts.
In the archeological section the museums exposition depicts the history
of Northern Lithuania and the environs of Siauliai since the ancient times
and tells us about the material culture of these regions from the very
settlement of a primitive society until the 14th century. Among the
exhibits are work instruments, weapons, ornamentations, trade objects,
archeological treasures, etc. The history of Siauliai town and its economy
during the 16th-19th centuries is illustrated by various maps, weapons,
money of the times, and documents of the noblemen of Siauliai pavietas
(a sort of a municipal institution in the 18th-19th c. Lithuania) and
their Seimelis (a municipal governmental body of noblemen). The
daily house life of the town and the estate is also on display in the
palace.
In the section of the Independence period a lot of documents, photographs,
orders, medals, and flags are exhibited. The visitors are given a broad
account of Lithuanias political events, Siauliai industry, culture and
daily house life at the present. The expositions part The
repressions of 1941 - 1953 period is about the postwar years in
Lithuania, the part The Revival Movement is about the events
of the latter years in the country.
The exposition of the ethnography section presents to the visitors the
daily house life, trade businesses, ceremonies, and calendar feasts of the
peasants of Samogitia and Siauliai environs (the 18th - the 1st part of
the 20th century). In 2001 the exposition The Daily House Life and
Existence of Northern Lithuania Peasants was organized.
