PORTAL OF VIRTUAL MUSEUMS OF LITHUANIA 

A Portal of Lithuanian virtual museums, MUSEUMS OF LITHUANIA is a continuous digital cultural and educational publication on the Internet in Lithuanian, English, German and French languages.
The portal gives information on the main museums of Lithuania (National, Republic, Local Government (Ethnographical and Memorial), Department, Public and Private).
Here we also find details about the exhibitions, expositions, collections and cultural-educational activities of Lithuanian museums.
From the portal we can directly switch to both local and foreign digital museum web sites.
The portal is created by the group of creators from Lithuanian Art Museum, Samogitian Cultural Association Editorial Board, Fund of Samogitian Culture, UNESCO Chair in Informatics for the Humanities, Institute of Mathematics and Informatics.
The author and the leader of the web site is Danute Mukiene , a director of the Informational Cultural Centre - Reading Hall of Digital Publications of Lithuanian Art Museum and the editor of the magazine “Žemaiciu žeme”.

The Portal MUSEUMS OF LITHUANIA is being created according to the project “ Portal of Virtual Museums of Lithuania MUSEUMS OF LITHUANIA” set up in 1999.
The goal of the project is by the year 2001 to create Lithuanian, English, German and French versions of the Portal; to update it by adding new, up-to-date information from Lithuanian museums.
The front page gives a brief summary on Lithuanian museums. Each of the museums has separate web pages in Lithuanian, English, German and French languages. Besides, here we can find addresses, working hours, information on expositions, exhibitions, new publications, cultural events of the museums we are interested in.
In the portal we also find an analogue of exhibitions and expositions. Each month the visitors of the web site are invited to enjoy a new virtual exposition. Here they can get acquainted with the newest collections, exhibitions etc. that find a broad response in the society.
Since the year 2000 an electronic version of the “Bulletin of Museology” can also be found in the Portal. Since 2001 the main versions of the “Bulletin of Museology” have been published in English.
Information on the newest web pages can be found on the page NEWS.
The creators of the Portal provide training and consulting for digital web site creators.
When requested and agreed on the payment the creators can create web sites, virtual expositions and exhibitions for separate Lithuanian museums that already have a direct connection or will be connected to the Portal MUSEUMS OF LITHUANIA.
