IGNALINA REGION

Territory
150,500 hectares, of which 40.93% are agricultural lands, 33.62% - forests, 9.32% - water areas, 2.12% - towns and residential areas, 2.39% - industrial companies and roads, and 11.62% - areas of other designation.

Population
25,000 inhabitants, of whom 33.36 reside in towns and 66.64% in rural areas. Of the total, 47.56% are men, and 52.44% - women. Ethnic descent: 82% are Lithuanian, 7% - Polish, 6% - Russian, 3% - Belorussian, 2% - of other descents.

12 subdisdricts, 20 post offices, a bus station, a railway junction, a tourist information centre, a hotel, 14 motels, 9 rural tourism homesteads, 5 pre-schools, 4 kindergarten-schools, 16 elementary schools, 8 schools of basic education, 9 secondary schools, 17 cultural centres, 18 Catholic churches, 4 houses of worship of other confessions, 2 museums, 26 libraries, 1,100 archaeological, historical and cultural monuments, 2 sports centres, 24 health care facilities, 2 state owned companies, 23 public stock companies, 88 closed stock companies, 311 individually owned companies, 8 agricultural enterprises, and 16 companies of other status.
