Territory
161,300 hectares, of which 64.1% are agricultural lands, 24.98% - forests, 2.35% - water areas, 2.29% - towns and residential areas, 1.85% - industrial companies and roads, and 4.43% - areas of other designation.

Population
42,300 inhabitants, of whom 28.4% reside in towns and 71.6 % in rural areas. Of the total, 47.5% are men, and 52.5% - women. Ethnic descent: 99.3% are Lithuanian, 0.3% - Russian, 0.2% - Polish, 0.1% - Belorussian, 0.1% - of other descents.

15 subdisdricts, 25 post offices, a bus station, 9 pre-schools, 26 elementary schools, 14 schools of basic education, 11 secondary schools, a gymnasium, a special school, a school of agriculture, children and youth sports school, an art school, 63 cultural institutions, 21 Catholic churches, 2 houses of worship of other confessions, 2 museums, 34 libraries, 191 archaeological, historical and cultural monuments, 28 health care facilities, 9 state owned companies, 13 public stock companies, 95 closed stock companies, 627 individually owned companies, 63 agricultural enterprises, and 3 companies of other status.
