45,600 inhabitants, of whom 51.1% reside in towns and 48.9 % in rural areas. Of the total, 46.8% are men, and 53.2% - women. Ethnic descent: 92% are Lithuanian, 6% - Russian, 0.5% - Polish, 1.5% - of other descents.
