In 1984, a teacher by the name of Birutė Stacevičienė
founded a museum in the Kapčiamiestis school. From 2006, this museum has
been called Emilija Pliaterytė’s Museum and based on a decision Lazdijai
Regional Council has been incorporated to the Museum of Lazdijai and Its
Environs.
In the Museum, there is an exposition dedicated to the uprising led by
Emilija Pliaterytė, the significant personalities of Kapčiamiestis and
its surroundings, and the history of the area from ancient times till
today.
In two rooms, the articles used in the everyday life of yesteryear are
exhibited.
Lessons in ethno-cultural studies, home technology, history, Lithuanian
literature, as well as other subjects take place in the museum.
Associated with the Museum is a Folklore Assembly.
