Territory
115,200 hectares, of which 72.91% are agricultural lands, 18.14% - forests, 2% - water bodies, 2.34% - towns and residential areas, 1.82% - industrial companies and roads, and 2.79% - areas of other designation.

Population
34,500 inhabitants, of whom 42.6% reside in towns and 57.4% - in vilages. Of the total, 48.12% are men, and 51.88% - women. Ethnic descent: 96% are Lithuanian, 2% - Russian, 0.4% - Polish, 0.4% - Belorussian, and 1.2% - of other descents.

10 subdisdricts, 13 post offices, a bus station, 10 pre-schools, a kindergarten-school, 20 elementary schools, 12 schools of basic education, 6 secondary schools, a gymnasium, a youth school, a special school, a school of agriculture, 39 cultural centres, 8 Catholic churches, 2 museums, 25 libraries, 350 cultural monuments, 2 folk theatres, a sports centre, 27 health care facilities, a state owned company, 13 public stock companies, 90 closed stock companies, 558 individually owned companies, 20 agricultural enterprises, and 29 companies of other status.
