Russian Award-Medals and
the Signs of Distinction from XIX - XX Centuries in National Museum of
Lithuania
Vincas Ruzas
Museologist, National
Museum of Lithuania
The history of Russian
award-medals is rich; it starts from the period or reign of Car Peter I.
Some of the awards were produced in huge number of copies. The producers
of medals were the Official State Mint of S.Petersburg and the private
companies. Private companies produced medals in cases when the owners of
the awards ordered the duplicates, or the original awards were lost.
Everyone who is interested in Russian awards and takes the medal meets
the question: does the official mint, or private company produce a
medal? Both of these medals are concerned as originals.
The publication presents
the collection of Russian awards from National Museum of Lithuania.

The Game of Glass Beads
Finished as a Festival of the Town
Regina Adomaitiene
Teacher, Guide,
Kedainiai Land Museum
The town of
Kėdainiai during the rule of the dukes’ Radvilos was a
multinational, tolerant town, the center of Protestantism in Lithuania
in XVII-XVIII centuries. That’s why the town attracted people of
different nationalities and confessions. There were good conditions to
develop the business and the trade, to preserve the national identity
and the freedom of religious faiths. Some of the communities of the town
have had a significant influence in the town: Scotsman, Germans and
Poles constantly participated in the activities of the Magistracy, they
were elected burgomasters, leaders of religious institutions.
The unique past of the
country is little known and actual in the society. Nowadays, when
Lithuania integrates into European structures, there is a need to
remember and to research different cultures, present in Kėdainiai
in the past.
The publication presents
educational research projects implemented by Kėdainiai Land Museum
to recognize different national cultures that used to exist in
Kėdainiai land, to stimulate multicultural education of young
people.

ICAM
Morta Bauziene
Director, Museum of
Architecture
The Eleventh Congress of
International Confederation of Architectural Museums took place in
Vienna, Austria, in September 21-26.
ICAM is international
non-governmental organization to develop relations between all
institutions interested in fostering the architecture and the critical
attitude to the architecture and the architectural environment. Members
of ICAM fix the architectural exhibits, preserve them, exchange
information.
Lithuanian Museum of
Architecture became a member of ICAM in 1994 during the VII-th
conference of ICAM in Madrid. ICAM-11 was organized by The Architectural
Center in Vienna, located in The Quarter of Museums.
The first session of the
conference was devoted to the architectural museums of the Post-Soviet
space. There were questions discussed: what new opportunities did
architectural museums gained after changes of political circumstances?
How do the museums answer new needs of the society? The other sessions
were concentrated on the questions of the buildings of architectural
museums and new buildings of museums, in common. The question about the
methods of architectural museums of collecting the exhibits and methods
of organization of exhibitions was discussed at the session devoted to
the virtual innovations. What is the difference between hand made and
digital drawings? Is it possible to consider a digital drawing a work of
art?
