Rimvydas Lauzikas, Chief Curator of Museum Collections,
Lithuanian Museum of Ethnocosmology

The purpose of Lithuanian Museum of Ethnocosmology is to collect, to research and to expose to the audience information about the relation of the human and cosmic world.
The Museum opened new exposition, held, using new informational technologies and digital equipment. Exposition was open on The International Museum Day this year.

The Museum of Ethnocosmology collected the equipment and e-programs for more than ten years. Lithuanian - Italian Fund allowed to purchase a modern telescope and CCD equipment what made possible to take digital pictures of the sky in 1997.
The Museum of Ethnocosmology has win the competition of modernization of expositions held by The Lithuanian Ministry of Culture in 2001 and has got the money for the purchase of mentioned above equipment to implement the programs.
The results of this work was the completion of programs “Travel in the Universe”, “Baltic Ethnocosmology”, “Paleoastronomy in the World”, “The Problem of UFO”. New equipment allowed to expose CCD images of the heavenly bodies, taken by the modern museum’s telescope.

Exhibition of Works of Graphic by Czech Artist Oldrich Kulhanek

Kristina Civinskiene, Manager, M. K. Ciurlionis Art Museum

This is the next year of cooperation between Lithuanian National M. K. Ciurlionis Art Museum and The Embassy of Czech Republic. The Czech Embassy presents exhibitions of works of graphics at the brunch of the museum - M. Zilinskas Art Gallery. The Embassy presented creative works by Karel Damel last year. This time, Dr. Janina Balsiene, associate of the Embassy, iniciator of the cooperation, suggested the exhibition of works of graphics by Czech artist Oldrich Kulhanek.
O. Kulhanek is a representative of figurative art. In the figure of man, which is predominant in the creative work of the artist, the author expresses the rhythm of the life, it’s turning around, in a spiral or a somersault. His graphic art hides his disgust of the meaningless, the foolishness and the violence in the figure of man or in it’s detail - a head, an eye, an ear, a mouth, a hand.
O. Kulhanek (born in 1940) is a worldwide-recognized Czech artist, who has unusual biography. Kulhanek has experience the consequents of communist regime, he was a political prisoner for his creative work. He was accused with organization of anti-governmental activities.

Commemoration of 140-th Birthday of Maironis in Jelgava
Regina Mazukeliene, Manager of the Division, Maironis Museum of Lithuanian Literature
The delegation of Maironis Museum of Lithuanian Literature visited Jelgava (Latvia) to participate in the days of Lithuanian and Latvian Poetry. Initiator of the festival is a priest and a poet Maironis, who celebrated his 70-th anniversary half-a-year before the date in Jelgava (Mintauja). He did not attain his 70-th anniversary: half a year was left for him to live. Maironis and J. Tumas-Vaizgantas came to Jelgava (Mintauja) in 1932 and the teacher of the gymnasium prelate K. Jasenas and director J. Lapinis met them. Maironis and schoolchildren of the Gymnasium stepped into the famous gymnasium. The classic Gymnasium of Mintauja was famous and there were studying many famous Lithuanians.
Director of The Maironis Museum of Literature Aldona Ruseckaite opened the exhibition “Maironis and Lithuanian literature of XX-th century”. Exhibits of the exhibition remind Maironis’ contacts with Latvia.

Rare Exhibit

Ernestas Vasiliauskas, Director, Joniskis Historical and Cultural Museum

Joniskis Historical and Cultural Museum has purchase a rare exhibit, a six-penny silver coin of Curonian and Semigallia knight Johan Ernest Biron from 1764.
The exact place where the coin was found is still unknown but, it is credible that it came from Joniskis county. This coin gives knowledge not only about circulation of Curonian coins in Lithuania, but also about trade and other relations between Joniskis county and Curonia and Semigallia of that time. It was important for these relations that the distance between Joniskis and Mintauja, the capital of Curonia and Semigallia of that time, was wery close (45 km. ).
Lithuanian National Museum numismatic collections do not include coins of this kind; museologists from Jelgava (Latvia), where the coins were made, have only one coin from 1763.

International Exhibition “Graphics. Jazz Prints”
Violeta Jaseviciute, National M. K. Ciurlionis Art Museum, Curator of the Exhibition

The brunch of M. K. Ciurlionis National Museum, Paintings Gallery, opened international exhibition “Graphics. Jazz Prints”, which is the continuation of last year’s exhibition “Graphics. From carving to…”. If the last exhibition delighted with numerous audience, courageous plastic expression, modern mentality, allowed the authors to express the accumulated energy, to demonstrate variety of styles and techniques of graphic art, to show the influence of philosophy of postmodern art, this year’s reference to the jazz connected participants into more clear and ideally “clean” space. Project was implemented on the eve of Kaunas Jazz festival, it expresses dominating synthesis of arts and the need of synthesis today. The main merit of the exhibition is the educational mission. The workshop of graphics using the real printing press is held for the next time. This unusual and for the first time in Lithuania used method of popularization of graphic art is useful not only for children, but also for art trainers, for whom seminar-like event was held, including theoretical and practical parts.

Museum Surprise for Families

Daina Kamarauskiene, Vice-Director for Information, Education and
Public Relations, The National M. K. Ciurlionis Art Museum

M. Zilinskas Art Gallery started implementation of the new educational program, prepared by manager of The Children Art Laboratory of the Museum Daiva Citvariene.
The majority of the visitors of The M. Zilinskas Art Gallery are individual visitors; that is why the museum was looking for methods of catching attention of not only adult visitors but also children, to create conditions for families to spend their leisure on their own, chamber-like, without management and without special equipment. There were tree attractive games created in this purpose: the set, the log and domino. The goals of these games were acqnowledgement of the visitors to the best museum pieces, to help to pay a deep attention to the colors, forms and details of depicted objects.
There were two colourfull books published for those, who want to help children to understand the world of art: “The Submarine Journey” and “The Recognition of the World in the Portrait”. Walking from the one hall to another with a help of these books, children tried to find a key into the little-known world of art. There were, also, practical notebooks published for drawing, coloring and improvising.
This program is unique in Lithuania and it awaits the test of visitor’s evaluation. All of the games are published digitally in case of the need to change tasks and to raise a number of copies with expedition.
