Museums in Lithuania

Museums in Lithuania are separated according to their jurisdiction. They are: national museums (founded by the Ministry of Culture), republican museums (founded by the Ministry of Culture or other state institutions), county museums (founded by the county’s governor), municipal museums (founded by municipalities), departmental museums (founded by public bodies, institutions and organizations) and others (non-profit public institutions, private, voluntary and school museums).

In Lithuania there are several kinds of museums according to the type of their collections: ethnographical, natural history, history, literature, art, science, technology, local lore, memorial and other museums.
